Gold suppliers and TrustPass suppliers on Alibaba

I believe many new buyers will choose to do business with Gold Supplier and/or TrustPass member of Alibaba because they take it for granted that these company must be legit and trustworthy as they have been verified by Alibaba.com.

There are cases that many buyers have been scammed by Gold suppliers or TrustPass members of Alibaba. In May, a British lady named Tracey came to me because she was scammed by a company called "Xiamen Zhongtong International Trade Co., Ltd", after investigation, we found that more than 6 people in 5 countries have been scammed by this company for more than 10,000 dollars, when I called Xiamen Municipal Administration of Industry and Commerce(AIC), I was told the company which was listed on alibaba as gold supplier, does not exist. And when our associate lawyers in Beijing send a lawyer's letter to the business address of this company listed on their alibaba homepage, the lawyer's letter was returned as the express company told us that the address is wrong.

So a question come to me, "what do alibaba do to verify their Gold supplier or TrustPass member?" I put that question to a former employee of Alibaba, Xiatao, who is Alibaba's local manager of Nanjing city, he replied, "Alibaba didn't take due diligence to verify Gold Supplier or TrustPass."

If you have check the terms of use on alibaba.com, you will find the following clauses:
6.2 Users are hereby made aware that there may be risks of dealing with people acting under false pretenses. Alibaba.com uses several techniques to verify the accuracy of the information our users provide us when they register on the Site. However, because user verification on the Internet is difficult, Alibaba.com cannot and does not confirm each User's purported identity (including, without limitation, TrustPass Members and China Gold Suppliers). We encourage you to use the various tools available on the Site, as well as common sense, to evaluate with whom you are dealing.

From this clause, you can see that Alibaba don't promise their Gold suppliers or TrustPass members are legit, and don't take any liability if they are not. Users are warned to take due diligence themselves before they enter into any trade relationship with Gold suppliers or TrustPass members on Alibaba.

So we come to the conclusion, the Gold Suppliers and TrustPass members of Alibaba don't necessarily means they are legit and trustworthy, it is highly suggest to take due diligence before you enter into business relationship with any of the Gold Suppliers or TrustPass members of Alibaba.

Since last november I made contact with Guangdong Jiangmen City Yetong Electric Vehicles Company Limited, through a supposed international executive (it was shown on their website as such) named Samuel Xia, our fist contact was via alibaba.com I enclose the receipt from the bank to which this Samuel told me to deposit for 3 electric vehicles. After two weeks of having made the deposit, the supplier, represented by Yunjin Guan, says the person that was our contact (Samuel Xia) does not work on the company since a while ago, and that the account info he gave us was not theirs, but he actually send us an email from the very same email account, ( samuel_jmyetong@126.com) saying he didnt review that email often because he had no time!!!even it was posted on their website as their international contact. He changed it after all my problem. I need help. We made the transfer 2 weeks go for $7853 usdlls, which were the savings of our lives. I cant believe Guan says the person has not been working with them since a while ago, yet his name and mobile phone were listed on the website www.jmyetong.com , on the contact us section, it said clearly Samuel Xia international executive, mobile 008613672988535 We started negotiations via email since november last year, our first contact with this company was via alibaba, and from there they reached us through the same email account, samuel_jmyetong@126.com and since then they didnt checked the email or change it or cancelled it. Until now that we made the transfer. It seems quite illogical to me. We acced to make the transaction since the company is in their 2nd year gold supplier member in alibba.com If he stopped working with them WHY DIDNT THEM : 1) post and add in alibaba and their website 2) erase his name and contact info from the website 3) cancel the email they showed on their website if this person was still in use of it, or change the password, anything To me it feels like the supplier's fault, by all that am enlisting on top. After Yunjin Guan knew about the scam, I asked him for help since I am pennyless now and cant go to China, and told him it seemed to me he had ALL responisbility. The answer he gave is that he is very busy all the time, so he never had time to change the contact info (until now) and that he doesnt have time to check all their employees´s info. I asked him for help to contact this person, and he said he wasnt local. He couldnt reach him. He is busy. And obviously he is not responding as in merchandise, since the money, he says, never made it to the company. I really need help.

I have tried to do biz in China for years...I as well got ripped off on Alibaba for 25,000 USD but some of the transactions went good....it is just the few that went horrible that keeps me off trade sites listing manufacturers. I now only use the services of Sourced Now (www.sourcednow.com). They verify each and every factory for me as well inspect all my goods before they ship and final payment is given. I know it is a bit more expensive for me to use them...but the nominal 3-5% they mark it up is cheaper than a loss of a full payment to a factory. I recommend anyone wanting to do business with China suppliers use a sourcing company before you get ripped off...

i have pending deals with 2 china companies for our product, similar terms entail price negotiations, discount for large order, 1 order is for $.5 million, the other for a million, we can supply them easily but they requested no samples at all, although we did document our product well in terms of MSDS and certified lab tests, we have websites and all of that...(we sell proprietary liquid cleaner that is environmentally benign) I negotiated the contract, marked up their draft for what I wanted and they readily accepted it, 30% downpayment by TT (bank wire transfer) on the contract amount and then pre-payments of each container before manufacture/shipment with the 30% being applied to the balance of the contract, insistence that I visit China for the contract signing and they had a 1% fee purported to be local governmental 'quality assurance' fee, i agreed to that but stipulated that they could deduct our share of the fee from the initial 30% upfront downpayment, which they agreed to....I am supposed to leave in a few days for China but I have come across all this online documentation regarding these trading scams that are just like this, pretty much although some cases stated they asked for samples....thinking of canceling my trip now, yeah this was a nice order and the prospect of tapping the China market, and the recognition that we could do a lot more than these initial orders.... i was also contacted by THEIR EMAIL ADDRESS: xahyjckgs2008@126.com *Reply to this address Company Name: XIĄŻAN HENGYUN IMPORT&EXPORT TRADECO,LID Contact Person: Liu Renxing Contact Phone No: +86-13572290869 Country: China Company Type: Importer, Distributor, Enquiry type: Price, Specifications, Message: XIĄŻAN HENGYUN IMPORT&EXPORT TRADECO,LID this company apparently has been mentioned in other posts on other sites and maybe here i don't remember but this pattern is all over the place in postings on US government site and Britain as well, the 2 companies other than this are as follows: DALIAN FORTUNE INTERNATIONAL TRADE CO,.LTD Henan Hengcheng Industrial Co. Ltd West Section,Jinshui Road, Zhengzhou City China 450003 pattern is the same with both but I just used the contract I re-did with Dalian with the Henan company, which again was accepted without comment, any feedback will be welcome and happy to share my experience
